Biography
Paulo BENTO holds a PhD in Management from The University of Manchester (2004), in the United Kingdom. Since 2008 he has been teaching at ISCTE Business School and researching at Business Research Unit. His research interests and teaching activity have been Entrepreneurship (namely Corporate Entrepreneurship and Strategic Entrepreneurship) and Innovation (namely Organizational Innovation and Innovation Management). He was President of the ISCTE Executive Education (2012-2018), where he was also Director of the Executive MBA (2013-2018), Director of the Executive Master in Business Management (2015-2018) and Director of the Sustainability Knowledge Lab (2013-2016). He was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Global Economics and Management Review (2013-2016).He is (co-)author of five books, (co-)author of several articles published in scientific peer-reviewed journals and permanently supervises doctoral and master's students. He is also a guest speaker at relevant conferences and seminars in Portugal. He used to publish regularly in top national magazines and newspapers.
He has several awards: publication (book and articles), supervision (doctoral thesis) and teaching (best teacher).
Outside Portugal, he served as Board Member of Transcom (2014-2019), in Mozambique, and has been teaching in China (Southern Medical University, Guangzhou: 2010-2023; University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu: 2024-present), Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, and Romania.
Before joining the academia, he was a co-founder and CEO of for value, a consulting company with focus on the strategy, management, and finance areas. Before that he was a controller at Bristol-Myers Squibb, a global biopharmaceutical company. Surprisingly, he started the career at the Portuguese Central Bank, where he was involved in some of the main operations and transformations that occurred in the banking industry during the 90s.
