“A university committed to inclusive, high-quality education, social impact, and academic excellence.”
La Universidad Central de Chile (UCEN) is a national, private, non-profit higher education institution that approaches academic education with a strong commitment to the country, aiming to contribute to the nation by shaping citizens with social awareness—promoters of the values of tolerance, pluralism, and equity, as well as respect for and acceptance of diversity in all areas of life and work.
UCEN’s foundational value is the comprehensive education of its students. This entails an intentional learning perspective aimed at fostering the development of a responsible, critical, participative, creative, and compassionate personality, with the ability to engage with and understand their environment in order to build their own cultural identity.
The university seeks to promote human growth through a process that embraces a multidimensional view of the individual, fostering the development of emotional, intellectual, social, material, and ethical-moral intelligence.
Equally important is the role of the university as a hub for the dissemination and promotion of knowledge, the arts, sports, national traditions, and historical heritage within society.
Founded in 1982, the Central University of Chile (UCEN) is one of the country’s three oldest private universities. It operates two campuses—one in Santiago and another in the Coquimbo Region (La Serena)—offering a diverse academic portfolio that includes 34 undergraduate programs, two doctoral programs, and a wide range of master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and professional certificates.
UCEN is organized into five faculties and technical schools and places a strong strategic emphasis on research and innovation. It fosters academic inquiry through dedicated research centers and institutes, as well as through its Internal Research Fund, which complements the scholarly work conducted within its faculties and academic chairs.
With more than 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and a community of over 40,000 alumni, UCEN has firmly established itself as a unique success story within Chile’s higher education system.
The university’s distinct model is grounded in a strong commitment to reinvest all earnings into the institution itself. It holds full ownership of its facilities, land, and assets, and its governance and strategic development are led by its academic community through a democratic structure. This model ensures both institutional autonomy and a deep alignment with UCEN’s educational mission.
UCEN boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment, continuously upgraded to meet the evolving needs of its academic community. The university encompasses a total of 89,749 square meters of built space, including several buildings strategically located in downtown Santiago, a high-rise sports center, and a regional campus in the city of La Serena.
The institution’s strong reputation for quality is backed by 42 years of academic excellence, a highly qualified faculty, and an extensive outreach program designed to foster the development of competent professionals with a deep commitment to public service—principles that are clearly reflected in UCEN’s mission and core values.
