Biography
Dr. Olive McCarthy is Director of the Centre for Co-operative Studies and senior lecturer with the Department of Food Business and Development at University College Cork, Ireland.Her research has been conducted mainly into credit unions and related issues such as moneylending and financial exclusion, as well as the role of co-operatives in agriculture and food, on which she has published widely. She is the academic director of the MSc in Co-operative and Social Enterprise by online learning and co-director of the MSc in Co-operatives, Agri-Food and Sustainable Development.
She serves in a variety of national and international positions, including as a member of the Irish government appointed Credit Union Advisory Committee and of the advisory board of the Centre for Community Finance in Europe.
